Strong arm tactics needed…

In case of emergency, break glass?

This is a 2.5kg jar of Turkish gherkins. It has sat in our fridge for a week. We cannot get it open. We have tried everything, including Googling ‘how to open jar’. The next step is to throw it out the window, but that would be a shameful waste of gherkins, not to mention rather dangerous. Any suggestions?

    This suddenly reminds of an episode of 'friends'.

    Phoebe: That's easy! You just have to think of him as a… as a jar of pickles that won't open.
    Rachel: So what are you saying? I should run him under some hot water and bang his head against a table?
    Phoebe: No, that's what you do when you want to get the truth out of someone.

    I know I'm not helping, but have you tried running it under some hot water… just saying… and you might find the truth 🙂

    Turn the jar upside down and tap the lid on a hard surface..Hope this helps..

    …guaranteed works for me everytime, put a thick rubber band around the the lid and then just twist / turn as per usual …

    I usually just wait until my husband comes home… but it seems you may have tried that one… hope you get it opened – I love pickles.

    We have the same problem with a jar of gerkins – we both gave up and put it at the back of the cupboard! I'll keep an eye on this one to see if you find a solution that works.

    OMG! So much for comic relief! Thanks for today's belly laugh … and I'm with Rachel … only I say whack the jar along the rim of the lid first and then run under hot water … then, twist.

    Hi Lucy-It's been a while since I visited your blog, and you, mine.

    Gosh, all you have to do is to tap the lid all the way around with a heavy handle of a strong butcher knife, and just pry open. You will hear the pop of the lid…meaning…done!…twist open.
    That's all!
    Now, can I have some of those gherkins?

    Have you tried using a bottle opener, the old-fashioned kind with the point on one end? The other end will easily lift the lid a bit so that some air can get in, and the lid will come right off.

    omg! I hate it when this happens… One time I couldn't open my lunch cause I closed it when the fried rice was really hot so something with the steam blah blah, but anyways, try opening it with your rubber gloves on. I'm sure you tried it though!
